Tahoe Pines is a small community located on the western shore of Lake Tahoe, five miles south of Tahoe City and only one mile from Homewood Ski Center. This incredibly scenic area is one of the most visited spots in the state of California and offers year round outdoor recreation. In summertime, the nearby Truckee River offers white water rafting and superb fishing. Blackwood Canyon has hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling trails. On the Lake you can enjoy swimming, boating, sailing, water-skiing and parasailing. In addition to Homewood Ski Resort, Tahoe Pines is just a short drive to other world-class ski areas such as Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. For non-skiers there are plenty of areas for sledding and tubing. South Lake Tahoe is approximately a thirty-minute drive away and has all the glitz and glamour of the casinos live shows, theater, fine dining and shopping. For something a little more low-key, visit the quaint town of Truckee, which is a great place to stroll the historic downtown area and browse the gift shops and art galleries. Donner Lake, where the infamous Donner Party was trapped in the winter of 1846, is a few miles outside the town of Truckee. Just five miles from Tahoe Pines is Tahoe City, generally considered the “hub” of the northwestern shore of Lake Tahoe, with plenty of shopping and other conveniences.

Tahoe Pines Travel Guide

How To Prepare For Your Tahoe Pines Vacation?

I like the idea of taking winter vacations Tahoe Pines because it can be a way to enjoy the snow and take a break from trying to live normal daily life while fighting with it. Snow is beautiful but not if you're sitting on the highway for three hours watching it fall and snarl traffic, preventing you from getting home. One of my favorite winter vacations was the time we went to Vermont to ski and snowshoe, and even though I was certainly cold, it didn't bother me as much because I was doing things that were fun. I wasn't waking up in the cold and heading out to work in the dark, feeling like my blood would freeze before I ever reached a warm building.
