Tahoe Donner is a resort area of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in Northern California, near Donner Lake and the town of Truckee, and approximately 30 minutes to the north shore of Lake Tahoe. This is a four-season resort area, with much to do each season of the year. Within minutes you can be at world-class ski resorts such as Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Sugar Bowl and Northstar. “Snow Play” areas offering sledding and tubing can be found at various spots along the mountain roads in the Tahoe Donner region, and Royal Gorge, which is a well-known cross-country ski area is just a short drive away. In summertime, the Truckee River offers fantastic rafting opportunities, and hiking and biking trails can be found all over the Tahoe Donner area. Swimming is available at Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe, and other activities include fishing and boating, kayaking, rock climbing and golf. The quaint alpine mountain town of Truckee is filled with interesting shops and restaurants, and Interstate 80, which passes through the town, makes it easy for exploring the whole Tahoe Donner region. The town of Truckee lies just west of the Nevada State line, and Donner Lake is situated within the Town Limits. For gambling, shows and other nightlife, South Lake Tahoe is about a 40-minute drive away and Reno is approximately 50 minutes away.

How To Prepare For Your Tahoe Donner Vacation?

I like the idea of taking winter vacations Tahoe Donner because it can be a way to enjoy the snow and take a break from trying to live normal daily life while fighting with it. Snow is beautiful but not if you're sitting on the highway for three hours watching it fall and snarl traffic, preventing you from getting home. One of my favorite winter vacations was the time we went to Vermont to ski and snowshoe, and even though I was certainly cold, it didn't bother me as much because I was doing things that were fun. I wasn't waking up in the cold and heading out to work in the dark, feeling like my blood would freeze before I ever reached a warm building.
