Welcome to Rubicon Bay
Rubicon Bay is a small town located along Highway 89 on Lake Tahoe’s west shore, and is considered the hub for nearby Homewood Ski Resort. The town is generally described as “cozy” with lovely views of the lake and easy access to nearby dining and shopping. Rubicon’s other claim to fame is for being home to a world renowned off-road vehicle trail. The section of the trail between Wentworth Springs Campground to Rubicon Springs is called the Devils Playground because of its difficulty. Rubicon is only a five-minute drive to beautiful Emerald Bay and the beach at Meeks Bay. A 25-minute drive takes you right to the casinos and other entertainment in South Lake Tahoe. Other outdoor recreational activities near Rubicon include swimming, parasailing, boating and fishing, water skiing, windsurfing, golf, hiking, biking and horseback riding. The D.L. Bliss State Park just north of Emerald Bay is the site of the Lighthouse at Rubicon Point. There is a visitors center at the south entrance of the park, and trail maps are available at the visitors center. You can drive to a small parking area near the head of Lighthouse Trail. The trail to the lighthouse is only 3/4 mile, but it is mostly uphill and at a high altitude. It’s a nice hike and the views of the lake are beautiful, but the lighthouse itself, which was erected in 1919, is a small wooden structure that is known more for its historical significance than its’ architectural beauty.
