Northstar is a resort area that is part of the Lake Tahoe region, located between the north shore of the lake and the town of Truckee. It is home to one of the top rated western ski resorts, with 63 downhill runs covering over 2400 acres and with 2200 feet of vertical drop. Snowboarders enjoy half-pipes, berms and jumps and cross-country skiers have 65 kilometers of groomed trails. In the summertime, the ski runs become bike trails, and other summertime activities in the area include horseback riding, rock climbing, golf, swimming, boating and fly fishing and rafting on the spectacular Truckee River. In summertime, visitors can ride the high-speed gondola and chairlift to the top of the mountain for an amazing view of Lake Tahoe, as well as enjoy a look at native flora and fauna. There are also picturesque picnic spots on top of the mountain. The new Village at Northstar broke ground in April, 2004 and will offer a “ski-in, ski-out” village with luxurious condominiums, outdoor ice rink, fire pits, shops and cafes. Northstar is just five miles to Lake Tahoe and casinos, live entertainment, world-class dining and nightlife. The little mountain village of Truckee is just 7 miles away and offers quaint shops and art galleries, restaurants, cafes and historical spots.

How To Prepare For Your Northstar Vacation?
I like the idea of taking winter vacations Northstar because it can be a way to enjoy the snow and take a break from trying to live normal daily life while fighting with it. Snow is beautiful but not if you're sitting on the highway for three hours watching it fall and snarl traffic, preventing you from getting home. One of my favorite winter vacations was the time we went to Vermont to ski and snowshoe, and even though I was certainly cold, it didn't bother me as much because I was doing things that were fun. I wasn't waking up in the cold and heading out to work in the dark, feeling like my blood would freeze before I ever reached a warm building.
